The Secret to Health and Longevity

I will get into the secret to health and longevity shortly but first I want to make the distinction between Exercise and Movement. Do you think there's a difference?

I actually believe there is.

Exercise is typically where you set aside a designated time to perform movement that is designed to get your heart rate up, strengthen your muscles, or increase your flexibility. Or maybe you like to exercise because it gives you more energy and improves your mood? Whatever the reason, we all know that exercise is good for us, so we aim to do 30-60 minutes of exercise 3-4 times a week and this is great! But what about the other 23 hours?

If you sit on your ass at your desk all day, what do you think that it doing to your health and longevity? 🤨

Picture this----> you wake up and get your exercise in and you are feeling great. Or maybe you don't exercise and you already feel like shit because you aren't exercising. Then you sit and have your breakfast, check your phone, drive to work, work at your computer and attend zoom meetings from your office chair, eat lunch, check your phone, work some more, drive home, eat dinner, check your phone, then sit and watch Netflix because you are now exhausted. Does any of this sound familiar?

Now let's talk about movement. What is movement?

move·ment (noun)


  1. an act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed.

  2. a change or development.

I want you to think about this for a minute. To move, you simply change your position. And if you want to achieve certain goals and develop your health then all you have to do is move. This is the secret to health and longevity. And yes, exercise is a type of movement but I want you to move more than just 30 minutes a day. Think you can do this? ABSOLUTELY!!!

If we incorporate a variety of movement into our lives as much as possible then I believe that is the secret to keeping us injury and pain free, while improving our overall health and longevity. Our world has become very automated and is full of screen time, now more than ever, so it is important that we all move more.

These movements don't need to be difficult. You can park farther away from the store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, take frequent breaks from your screen, try sitting on the floor or even lying on your tummy.

When was the last time you were on your tummy? Can't remember?

Want to improve your posture? Try some tummy time.

These are just examples as there are endless possibilities. Not sure what movements to do? Watch a toddler and notice all the different ways they move their body and then try them out for yourself.

The saying is true....if you don't use it you lose it...

So get off your chair, stop reading this from your screen and MOVE YOUR BODY.
